I was sitting in my office today watching four boys walk home from school. Two of them were older and they just put their heads down and braved the cold and walked quickly home. The two younger ones saw a big pile of snow made by the snow plow and they began to jump and play on it. Four boys walking on the same road at the same time, but they had very different reactions to the surroundings. That got me thinking, are we living or just existing? I know it is winter and it is cold outside. I know that the wind cuts right through you when you turn your face toward the north. But we also have an option, embrace the day or just get through the day. I want to draw a spiritual conclusion from this observation: God gave us this day, in this place, for this time. Shouldn’t we be enjoying the moment? So many times in life we get caught up in the negative of our surroundings and miss the beauty, fun and thrill of the day.
"This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it”, is what Psalm 118:24 tells us. So I suggest that we embrace the day, enjoy the moment and maybe, just maybe, jump in a snow bank.
